Why a bakery?

There’s just something special about baking. Taking such humble ingredients as flour, water and salt and creating a fabulous loaf of sour dough bread. Now adding in some butter, sugar and eggs and the world of cookies and cakes opens before your very eyes. No gluten? No problem. No dairy or eggs? Again, possible but different techniques and ingredients. In almost every culture in every land, there is an opportunity to sample a regional baked good. Celebrations bring forth the desire to create a baked good. “If I’d know you were coming, I would have baked a cake”. How true is that?

Here at Bleu Moose Bakery, Heather the owner/baker, has had a passion for the baked goods needed for celebrations in life. Over 50 years ago with a simple cake decorating kit from Wilton, she started down that path. The wanderings included classes all across the US and Canada, as well as being owner/operator of two bakeries in another state. Heather thought she was ready to retire, but the baking bug bit once again. When the opportunity arose to not only have a bakery, but a place for community to gather and make new friends, the seed for the Bleu Moose Bakery was planted. Why Bleu Moose? The ‘Moose’ is paying homage to the location, a former Moose lodge and all of the dedicated members that belonged to it. The ‘Bleu’ is because Heather loves to make French style pastries and breads and there is a lot of French history with Michigan. And lastly, with a little artistic license, the Great Lakes logo was able to be turned into a moose!
